One of the few occasions when I think consuming on audiobook enhanced my experience of the story and I ended up binging this across a couple of days. Shouldn't have been surprised - Jodie Comer is excellent and her narration really added to my sense of connection with the character, who sees her faith in the legal process really shaken and you share in that as the reader.
I liked how the book was structured with a 'then' and 'now' alternating chapters, especially for the second part of the story which added to the tension of the court case.
I was aware of the depressingly low conviction rates for rape and this really underlined the limitations in the UK legal system as it stands currently. It challenged me to reflect on what I would do in her situation, what I would want a friend to do. Certainly not easy material but really important to understand more about.

This book was a challenging read, but a story that needs to be told and heard with 1 in 3 women relating to this violence. I could not put this book down as it was well written moving between past and present. The first half of the book was good at getting to know characters and feeling light even though we know what was to come. I also appreciated an insight into law process and lingo.

I knew how this book was going to end, but that didn’t make it any less of a kick in the guts to read.
I wish I could have enjoyed (is that the right word?) this book more. I feel like there was so much of the Before part of the book that the After section felt a bit short and rushed by comparison? Also, the lack of quotation marks meant that occasionally I was having to go back double check whether it was internal monologue or spoken dialogue
