The trials, tribulations, and rewards of teaching in a two-room school house. Miss Agnes was a good teacher who related to her students both as individuals and as students.
2.5
While it delves some what into Athabaskan culture and traditions, it has way to much of a white savior trope to be something I'd personally recommend.

As a homeschool mom, I appreciate Miss Agnes' approach to education. Through the eyes of her student Fred, we see not everyone fits into the typical school scenario. Miss Agnes' care and attention to all the students will pull at your heartstrings! Four stars because I thought the writing was a bit disjointed, but otherwise a great story.
Really good juvenile level book. the Deaf character isn't central to the story, but it incorporates some amazing themes about the ability of Deaf people to learn, even without being able to hear. Definitely recommend it for just about anyone.
Very enjoyable as a read-aloud. All of my children thought it ended too soon.
