Beautiful prose and setting. Victor Frankenstein is a lil bitch. Walton says to the monster "you throw a torch into a pile of buildings; and even they are consumed you sit among the ruins and lament the fall." This is VF through and through...

One of my favorites. Arguably a science fiction book, evoking the "people ask 'can' we, but not 'should' we" about consequences to cutting edge advances. Has a lot of philosophy and morality baked into it which makes it much deeper.

It's interesting looking back how this is portrayed as the time of the triumph of scientific enlightenment. I wonder if current times will ever feel like that in the future. Though in some ways it does still feel relevant to modern science, and you can definitely see a through line to modern science fiction. More internal/philosophical and much less action than I expected. You would think Victor, being so good at chemistry, would be smarter in other aspects of his life. But actually that's probably very realistic
