Oof. Francesca is the worst. And I don’t think it was fully intentional. I also wondered if some of the character aspects I couldn’t stand were because I had similar experiences, but no. That doesn’t cover it either.
Allegra - fine.
Grandma - meh.
Francesca - awful.
I barely made it through the book. About a quarter of the way in, I wanted to give up. But I also wanted to see if it was a purposefully terrible character, or if there was some grand redemption, so I dragged myself through it.
I guess I also excepted a higher level of “reality” since this was also meant to be a family connection, repair, etc.
So disappointing! I was hoping to love it so I would have another series to get sucked into, but that’s not where it ended up landing for me

I enjoyed this so much! Not only did it make me want to visit Italy but it always left me craving Italian food. 😆
This book is a beautiful story of 3 different generations of women. It really reminded me a lot of my own immediate family. They’ve hit a spot in life where they can’t seem to understand each other and this trip to Italy is a way for them to reconnect as well as heal from their misunderstandings.
The way the author describes everything really made me feel like I was there. If I was listening to this on audio, I could have closed my eyes and pictured myself there.
While it did feel rushed with the difference romances, I let myself get swept away in the freedom each of the women was experiencing and just let it be. The one with the priesthood right around the corner though was WILD. I guess I still have some lingering Catholic thoughts. 😂
Overall a great read and can’t wait to read the next one!

Read while in Italy. Enjoyed hearing a story set in the places I’d been but not very well-written or compelling plot / characters.

An adorable story that makes a perfect beach read and could easily fit in as a Hallmark movie. We went to Italy in June of 2019, so it was fun to mentally revisit Venice and Rome. Any drama is quickly and neatly resolved and the ending ties everything up in a nice package.
"Workaholic, career-obsessed Francesca is fiercely independent and successful in all areas of life except one: family. She struggles to make time for her relationship with her teenage daughter, Allegra, and the two have become practically strangers to each other. When Allegra hangs out with a new crowd and is arrested for drug possession, Francesca gives in to her mother's wish that they take one epic summer vacation to trace their family roots in Italy. What she never expected was to be faced with the choice of a lifetime. . . .Allegra wants to make her grandmother happy, but she hates the idea of forced time with her mother and vows to fight every step of the ridiculous tour until a young man on the verge of priesthood begins to show her the power of acceptance, healing, and the heartbreaking complications of love. Sophia knows her girls are in trouble. A summer filled with the possibility of change is what they all desperately need. Among the ruins of ancient Rome, the small churches of Assisi, and the rolling hills of Tuscany, Sophia hopes to show her girls that the bonds of family are everything and to remind them that they can always lean on one another before it's too late.
