I got this as a "blind date book" (wrapped in paper, with a few descriptive words written on it.) And I was disappointed.
My biggest problem is that the plot hinges on prejudice, which is rewarded. It's far-fetched, which I can forgive. The coincidences pile up high. But the fact that plenty of bad people are rewarded, the gray area people turn a blind eye for the "greater good," and the few decent people are punished? That I'm not so keen to forgive.
It was a quick, easy read, and I had hope things might turn out differently, but the end is tragic.

Good Grisham. Easy to read and it was a nice break from the world.

One of the better Grisham's that I've read in recent years. The story was really good. I enjoyed it. Fast-paced and I finished it quite quickly. The end lacked a bit but I really don't know what else he could have done unless he wrote another couple of hundred pages. It was better than some of his endings but in some ways it was "too clean." One more point that was kind of lost on me was the Buster storyline. Not quite sure what the point was. I liked it and I'm glad I finally read it. I would technically give it 3 1/2 stars but it's not an option.
I'm a big John Grisham fan. I read a lot of his stuff in my early teens. I picked this one up at a garage sale in a bag of books. This one was a fast read, like most of his stuff. Engrossing, good details, fun characters. I felt at times there were too many sub-plots and new characters added that could have been streamlined. I also felt like things wrapped up a little too neatly and quickly at the end. All in all, a good bath tub read, but he's written much better books.
My favorite Grisham book. I can't really articulate well why I feel that way but I loved this book
Story about a group of incarcerated judges in a low security prison that begin blackmailing men who answer a personal ad (keep in mind, the book was written in 2000) where they pretend to be a young gay male seeking companionship of older men. They snag several well to do men in the process and it gets interesting to a point...and then just stops.
Good read that held my interest, but that I figured would become more thrilling and complicated.

Absolutely marvelous. Gripping and intoxicating from the start.
I have no idea what inspired Grisham to write this, but I'm glad he did.
One of the only JG I could barely get through. I only finished it because I felt bad stopping halfway though. I'm not sure why I had such a hard time with it cause I always love his books.
