Really solid in the first half. Personally, the middle dragged on a bit long but I don't think that was from misexecution. Really picked up from desert onwards, there was magic in the Japan, day in the life, and sous-chef chapters. The final chapter following the scars on his hands made me nostalgic for a life I've only read about. I want to be committed to something, to be so in love with the little moments of something is the best life has to offer.

Some funny stories but I found myself skipping over too much culinary details.

I love reading works from people who are passionate about their profession/interests this was great. Also my messy ass wanted to know more about that heroin addiction like don’t mention it if you're not going to elaborate !!!

Interesting overview of how Bourdain got started cooking, and his advancement in the chef trade. Narrated by the author, it's darkly funny and compelling.

I wouldn't have read this if Book Club hadn't selected it. I've never seen his shows, and I don't know anything about him, but he was interesting. He is loud and honest. Pretty cool.

The "day in the life" chapter felt like that one episode of The Bear.

The "raped" sentence wouldn't fly today tho lol.
