I've always been in awe at how someone with Bourdain's checkered past and obsessive commitment to a trade can also be a storyteller and writer that I, a semi-pretentious literature enthusiast, am envious of, but you can't help but love it. There are a lot of anecdotes in here that didn't age all that well, but it's clear his soul and his sensibilities have always been in the right place. I'm particularly fond to his continuous acknowledgement that Latinos are the backbone of the industry. What a hole he left in the world.

Loved this one - Bourdain describes exactly what his life has been like in the food industry. He's not afraid to reveal his mistakes, and his dubious past, content to let the food do the talking. And it makes you hungry, makes you want to learn more about the dark underbelly of the kitchen...and you realise what goes into making that perfect plate appear on your table.
Foodies will love it!

Anthony Bourdain infuses Kitchen Confidential with this amusing contradiction of crass attitude and beautiful food. I enjoyed seeing him rake his drug addicted, unscrupulous younger self over the coals. The wild shenanigans he and his brigade would get up to amused me!

Bourdain is a great writer. He reminds me of Steven King because of how well he captures personality through speech.

I took off one star because I found the middle dragged for me.

I do miss Anthony Bourdain. Parts Unknown was one of the few shows that my mom, grandma, and I all liked. Reading this book was like tapping into a part of him that still exists.
