This was better than the others, but that's a low bar. I listened to the audiobook at 1.5-2x speed and that was the only way I found it bearable. The idea is interesting, but everything about the characters is the worst. Every single part of this book is longer than it needs to be and all of the dialogue and inner monologuing is repetitive and drowning in angst. I wish I liked this more.

This has been my least favorite of the series. It was slow going and there were several moments of being frustrated by immature and childish decisions led to a lot of terrible things to happen. This was mostly at the beginning of the book.
For the rest of the book, Scarlett shows A LOT of growth. It’s clear she is making better choices - but I can’t say the same for other characters. Talwyn and Ashtine - I’m so mad at them both. Briar - my heart broke for him. Sorin at the end left me 😭😭😭.
This book still also has a lot of parallels to TOG. However, I am hoping the next two books are better now that we’ve gotten some of Scarlett’s more childish tendencies out of the way and she’s on a path to growth.
I’m looking forward to seeing where the series concludes.
