This was better than the others, but that's a low bar. I listened to the audiobook at 1.5-2x speed and that was the only way I found it bearable. The idea is interesting, but everything about the characters is the worst. Every single part of this book is longer than it needs to be and all of the dialogue and inner monologuing is repetitive and drowning in angst. I wish I liked this more.

This has been my least favorite of the series. It was slow going and there were several moments of being frustrated by immature and childish decisions led to a lot of terrible things to happen. This was mostly at the beginning of the book.

For the rest of the book, Scarlett shows A LOT of growth. It’s clear she is making better choices - but I can’t say the same for other characters. Talwyn and Ashtine - I’m so mad at them both. Briar - my heart broke for him. Sorin at the end left me 😭😭😭.

This book still also has a lot of parallels to TOG. However, I am hoping the next two books are better now that we’ve gotten some of Scarlett’s more childish tendencies out of the way and she’s on a path to growth.

I’m looking forward to seeing where the series concludes.

4 stars. Tandem read with audio and narrators are great of course.

Nothing has changed about how I feel about this series, it has all the same pitfalls and praises I had with the previous installments. For this book in particular it was EXTREMELY frustrating to see Scarlett fuck around, find out but then never GROW from the finding out period despite constantly repeating that she understood and would change but noooooooooo girlypop just kept keeping secrets and gaslighting everyone. Honestly she doesn't deserve Sorin, that man has the patience of a saint and hes quickly climbing the book boyfriend list. Also fuck you Callan, Nuri, and especially Talwyn. I could do without either of your POVs next book.

Anyways if you can't tell, I am SAT and already have book 4 loaded up and ready to go. Honestly it should be studied how much I wanna read these books and how entertaining they are despite all the pitfalls. I just don't seem to care when I am actually reading them. Literal junk food.
