Most likely the best “Children’s” book I’ve ever read, and it has probably my favorite ending of any book ever. Gaiman is able to write a story that is about being a child and growing up while also dealing with themes of life, death, love, loss, and what it means to be human. It’s not a book for children, it’s a book for anyone.

You normally don't experience macabre in children's literature, but Neil Gaiman is able to pull it off. This is such a unique story. It's whimsical, with suspense, adventure, and sadness. It doesn't feel like a horror story, just a bunch of ghosts helping a human out. It's told from Bod's perspective as each chapter is a different experience and different age. We experience Bod's coming of age with the ghosts and Silas raising him. I really enjoyed this very imaginative lyrical prose.

I love a good dark tale and this was no exception. I listened to it over the course of two days and I love Gaiman's voice. I'm definitely going to listen to Coraline soon for this particular reason.

It's a good read but I do think it's over-hyped. I expected it to be ASTOUNDING but it was only good, in my opinion.
