Enjoyable, quick read from Harris. Looking forward to more stories in this vein.

Love the character, hope she's just getting warmed up.

4.5 stars. The writing on this one kept me pretty entertained. Boiled down and kept the pace up the whole time.

Finished this one and really enjoyed! If you were a fan of Sookie Stackhouse or Midnight, Texas, this newer series about Gunnie Lisbeth Rose will be right up your alley. This is not a thriller as claimed by Lee Child’s on the cover. But it is a fun urban fantasy adventure story with an absolutely endearing main character.

After DNF'ing at least 3 books, I finally picked up a winner. An Easy Death, by Charlaine Harris. Harris wrote the book series that Trueblood was based on, as well as a few other series and standalones. I've always found her writing style easy and entertaining, and An Easy Death is no exception. Though, classified as a thriller, I would label this book an "alternative history fantasy adventure". I definitely keeps you wanting more, but without the tension and anxiety of a traditional thriller. Set in the mid 20th century in North America, the alternative history elements really fascinated me (but I am a history nerd). The magical world was subtle, so if magic isn't your thing, the epic adventure theme of this book has wide appeal. I read this book in a day, so I guess I really enjoyed it. I also have my calendar marked for when the next book in the series comes out. Side note: though this is part one of a series, it can also be read as a standalone.

I went into this skeptical of how it would be and with luck I actually liked it. I absolutely loved Gunnie Rose's attitude and spark. It's just to bad she lost her friends.

Some random skipping and sections that I had to go back and reread simply because of the incredibly laconic writing style. But the character herself is of very few words, so, in keeping with the stream of consciousness style of writing it makes sense. Things happen quickly, the protagonist is definitely injury prone, but the story is exciting and keeps you interested. Overall a great book and a quick read.

This is one of those thoroughly enjoyable, couldn't put it down kind of reads! The premise of America shattering after President-elect, FDR being assassinated before his inauguration and most of the rest of the cabinet dying off from influenza was so unique and fun to read. Apparently, very quickly big chunks of the U.S. got taken over by other nations when the government fell apart and two generations later, young adults only hear stories from the grandparents about how things were.

Lizbeth Rose has grown up in southwestern country known as Texoma, and is now a Gunnie, a hired gun used for protection when moving across the territories. Against her better judgment, she agrees to help two Grigoris, wizards dedicated to the service of the Holy Russian Empire (west coast), in their quest. As they're pursued aggressively across the country by those determined to stop them from completing their task, Lizbeth discovers that she's actually what these two Grigori's are after. Now, she needs to save them all while not letting them know that they've had the answer to their problems all along.

Such an amazing new series (hopefully) from Charlaine Harris! I absolutely love this book and really hope there are more to come. I received this novel as an ARC from Edelweiss: Above the Treeline.
