I'm essentially reading this entire series.
It'll be interesting to see if I finish this series in 21 days (21 books in 21 days).
One of the things I like about this is that it's simple, about kids having a good time and solving adventures and eating good food and I'm just using this as escapism okay?
I read most of this series when I was younger, and gosh, I do not remember reading queer as the term for weird on every other page. Also, totally obvious, but I'm totally gonna headcanon George as trans, yes? Especially in a period of time, where gender performance was so extremist (dolls vs adventuring, kitchen vs playing) and so on.

I read this with Lara (age 6) and she absolutely adored this book, probably as much as I did when I was her age. I remember it as being one of the first books I read alone and I yearned for the adventures the kids had.
It is very obviously dated. Not just in the language (“mummy, why does he keep saying people are bricks?”), but streams of misogyny run throughout (poor Aunt Fanny, who seems bloody lovely and owns her own island with a hoard of gold, yet has the grumpiest husband ever who is actually able to sell HER island without even a signature from her….I hope she sacked him off eventually). And no thought to health and safety at all, with the four Tweens rowing themselves to a deserted island for a few nights without an adult in sight (well, until the bad guys show up….)
Five stars despite being so dated, for making my little girl jump up and down in excitement and being a thoroughly enjoyable romp. Extra star if possible for having a boarding school that you can take your dog to. What gorgeous carnage that would be.
Now, as we have friends who live on the real life inspiration for Kirrin Island it’s time for me to research if there really could be gold on it…I smell an adventure.

This is one of my best authors because her stories are very engaging.
The story is about 2 boys, 2 girls and a dog that actually go on a treasure hunt on an island that they one claims to own. They find some INGOT and then their troubles began where some men try to harm them. They set up a proper plan to escape the men's grip and escape to report the issue. At the end securing the treasure and island as theirs.
