There were so many things that were unbelievable and I did it see the twist. Once that happened, a lot of things made sense and I really liked it, until the far fetched & ridiculous ending ruined it all. Very disappointing after reading The Nightingale and The Great Alone.
I love Kristin Hannah, and this book did not dissapoint. This was a fun read for Christmas time. Many of the reviews here are saying they couldn't finish becuase it was unrealistic, but you have to finish it to understand!
Joy is a high school librarian, recently divorced, and gets away for a vacation. She is in a plane crash, but walks away and meets Daniel and Bobby.
Highly recommend !!

I love how Hannah writes this part because she leaves so many clues! The reader is left wondering "what in the world", but the writing is done in a way that you KNOW something is going to be explained later in the book. Part II did not dissapoint!!Highly recommend !!

Cute. Not my taste. Predictable at the end. Read for a book club.
Wasn't a bad read. Toward the end, I did feel like I was reading a script for a made for tv holiday movie
I've always loved Kristin Hannah and although this was an earlier writing of hers (2005), I was eager to give it a try since it had a holiday title and it's Christmastime. At first, it felt a lot like a typical Hallmark-type chick-lit book. But the second half threw me for a loop. I don't think I can say a lot about it without spoiling the book but let me try.
Joy is a school librarian who is ready to escape her sad, lonely life for the holiday season. She essentially decides to run away, quickly buys a plane ticket, and heads for Washington state. After quite a few unforeseen circumstances, Joy ends up at a run down lodge. There, she meets a little boy, Bobby and his father, Daniel. Both boys are also sad and lonely after Bobby's mother (and Daniel's ex wife) recently passed away. Joy brings just that...joy, to these two, sad and disconnected hearts. But just as she is beginning to imagine a future, she is thrust back into the pain and confusion of reality. Was it all real?
