Comfort & Joy
By Kristin Hannah
5⭐️

This was a beautiful story. Kristin Hannah is known for stories that reach your soul, and this one definitely does that. This story will engage all of your emotions as you journey with Joy to find Hope.

Christmastime has a way of leaving a bit of magic around. This story has a bit of Christmas magic mixed into it. Just enough to keep that little piece of us that still believes in the magic of Christmas alive.

The characters are well written and so is the plot. I want to say so much about this story and how my mind absorbed it, but I won’t. I will say, if you need something that’ll refresh you and leave you with some good feelings - then this book is perfect for you.

This is the first Kristin Hannah I’ve read and I am… not excited about the other book on my shelf. This was so dumb. But I wanted a little Christmas read and this was fast and ya know what? The stupidity of this story matches the energy of 2024, so it was actually kind of perfect. I finished it, set it down, and said out loud to my husband, “well that was stupid.”

For actual content review… think Hallmark movie but over the top, even for them. So many tropes. Sure Christmas magic is nice but… this was just unbelievable.

Not even Hallmark movie territory. More like Great American Family. I really like the other Kristin Hannah I’ve read and thought I’d try this short holiday book, but nope. It’s from 2005 so it makes sense, but I have regrets. Also dislike that the audio was only available on Audible and the narration was cringe.

I wish it was a little more Christmasy! But it was an enjoyable little read. You can tell it is some of her earlier work.
I don’t love the unreliable narrator first half. Because it really made the second half feel drawn out for no reason with her figuring out whether it was real or not? And I definitely don’t think first half Daniel would have acted the way last chapter Daniel did? Kissing her??
OVERALL I did enjoy and would recommend someone read for a quick Christmastime book!
