The first book I ever read by Kristin Hannah was Magic Hour, which I loved, and this book reminds me of that one. A great read for the holidays with a touch of magic and an unexpected twist.
This is one of Hannah's mid-career books, earlier than any others of hers that I read and enjoyed. It for sure felt far less mature than my favorite, Night Road. So much rang emotionally false in this story, especially how little Joy thinks about her failed marriage except in the vaguest terms, and her seemingly easy forgiveness of her betrayer.
The midpoint twist just made me a bit annoyed. It seemed like a very beginner gimmick, but perhaps it was just an experiment to break out of genre expectation that wasn't as thought through as it could've been.

This is probably my favorite book by this author. Has the quality of a fairy tale, and I am finding that I like that in a book lately. A tender story with a surprise in the middle.
I had no idea what this was about when I started it, but I left the book I was *planning* on reading at home on a recent trip, and this was on my Nook so I figured why not. I think NOT knowing anything about it made it more enjoyable, but honestly it wasn't my favorite of the KH books, it was a little too over the top for my taste.
This was like reading a Hallmark Christmas movie. I love Kristin Hannah, but this was not my favorite novel of hers. However, it was a quick, mindless, sappy book. I knew that going in and I enjoyed every moment.
Thank goodness for Part 2 because without it this book is too sloppy saccharine. Not like it isn’t anyway.

Eh...I must not have been in the right frame of mind for this. I was HOOKED after the first chapter. Then it all went astray. By the end...I was just skimming the pages to finish it.
This was literally to worst book I have ever read. Premise was ridiculous, story arc and plot were completely unbelievable and the characters were flat and uninteresting. Please save yourself the trouble and the lost hours of your life and just skip this one.
