Comfort and Joy, by Kristin Hannah, is a beautifully written novel. A Christmas miracle full of magic, hope, love, and wonder. This is a timeless novel that I look forward to reading again and again. Kristin Hannah has a definitive style of writing that wraps you up and sweeps you away in the journeys of her novels. Another great read you don't want to miss!
This review is for my notes/reference. This is not what I was expecting at all! Clearly I didn't read the synopsis. By the title and size I was hoping this would be a warm sugar cookie of a story. Instead it was an intense story that made me worried throughout. It ended up sweet and I did cry, but it wasn't what I wanted/expected.
This was a fable. Please keep that in mind. It is not supposed to be believable. With that being said, it was still gripping and just lovely.A perfect little holiday read.
After getting some devastating news, Joy decides to take a trip to the Pacific Northwest. An unexpected detour leads her to a small town and to a run down lodge run by an Irish man and his young son. Joy ends up finding herself as she gets to know this father and son. This was our December pick for book club and it does not feel like a Kristin Hannah book…more like someone from Hallmark wrote it. Totally clean and definitely cheesy. I guessed the twist in the first few chapters.
