I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I. Need. Book. Two. Now!! Loved this. Selah’s character development is perfect. Timid but fierce. Scared but willing to fight for what is right. Add in a touch of romance and I could not put this down.

The only thing I liked was the romance with... oh wait there were 3 different guys out MC had feelings for each of them she swore were the love of her life. Yet the only one I actually wanted her to have a romance with (Lang) never happened. Everything else in this book felt off I didn’t connected with any of the characters. I kept waiting for it to get good and then it ended I’m guessing there’s going to be a sequel but I’m not sure if I will read it.

This book grew on me the further I got into it, and I am happy to say that I loved the ending and can’t wait for the sequel!
What I liked:
Selah’s growth: When we first meet our protagonist, Selah, she is very skittish and shy, and scared in general. However, by the end of the book, she is a force to be reckoned with and will not take anyone’s excuses for wrong-doings. I didn’t care for her for a good chunk of the book, but I started to admire her as she found strength in herself to overcome her fears and she became fierce.
Torden: HE’S SO CUTE OH MY but I just adore his personality and how he gets nervous about being a good suitor and how he embraces every aspect of himself and Selah. Also, I take back my previous statements about preferring Bear as Selah’s honey, and now I vote for Torden. #TeamTorden.
The Plot Twists: Near the end everything was crazy in a good way and I loved it! So many things happened and I’m excited to see where the next book goes.

This book was honestly better than I expected! Though, to be fair, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve felt like YA fantasy has been letting me down lately, so maybe that’s why I went in with low expectations, but this book didn’t let me down! I think what I loved most about it is that the second half was all about Norse mythology, and I was very much about it.

There were some weird things: is this historical? It seemed like it at times, but then other times they were definitely at or talking about made-up places. And I didn’t understand the time period either. Like, there are transmitters and radios, but people still fight like it’s the dark age? I was just a bit confused by some of it, but the story and writing managed to help me overlook that, and I’m really looking forward to a sequel!

DNF @22%: I am honestly not feeling compelled to continue reading. This is a beautifully produced book, but I feel as if way too much has been put in here, and the result feels confused and and honestly a little frustrating at times.

I was a little unsure about this book. I was really excited, and then a couple people told me it sounded lame and that it wasn't very good... and that made me more weary of it.

I ended up enjoying it so much, though. It was a lot different from the books I've been reading lately. It wasn't super-incredibly complex, magic being thrown at you any possible way, or overly romance-y. It was nice, calmly plotted, and a book about exploration, both within the self and exploring the world.

I liked it and I'll continue the series.
