this book was everything to me in 2021. i’m definitely going to reread soon once i find it. i loved this book so much. i loved mostly how much it kept me interested.
I'm so not okay with the ending.
For 100 pages Olga is queen crazy bitch herself and it was so uncompfortable reading it, I just wanted to stop but was not able to - that was so good and well written!
But than comes this Hollywood-Movie, abandoned housewifehappy ending with the neighbour ending. Disappointing!

This is indisputably far different from the Neapolitan series which served as my introduction to Ferrante. Reminds me a bit of Death in Her Hands by Moshfegh where both authors succeed in locating the vulnerable, defenseless parts of your mind and proceed to disrupt them further. I will make a note to reread this when I’m in a less tumultuous time of my life and when I have more time to devote to it—this book, like her other works, demands your full attention and by not being able to do so, I think detracted from the overall experience.
medium-paced
Nobody writes about the ugly side of relationships with as much grit and rage as Ferrante. This is a story of a woman whose life fell apart when her husband left her for a younger woman. Olga became bitter and relentless, knew it and let her anger fester and take over until she could no longer bear it. Despite everything, I rooted for her.
This was totally out of my "normal reading". While I didn't terribly enjoy the story (it was pretty depressing and un-interesting to me) the *writing* itself was fantastic. The author has a super way of writing that's full of imagery, and the words and phrases themselves are delightful.
me reading this book about a woman’s husband of fifteen years abandoning her right after a man I was seeing for one month ghosted me: ugh so real twinsies im just like her fr
