I Bet You

Sweet and sexy college football romances like I Bet You is why I love New Adult Books. The nerdy romance book loving heroine and the hot jock should not work together but they DO! The perfect blend of humor and swoon made this one enjoyable read.

The dynamics of Penelope's and Ryker's relationship were quite interesting. They start off as sort of enemies but then Ryker, as a peace offering, tries to help Penelope get a date with another guy she has had a crush on. I was slightly annoyed with Ryker for helping her get another guy when he was obviously into her but I got over that pretty quickly. So then they actually become friends but the chemistry between them cannot be denied and Penelope learns very quickly where her feelings lie. No worries, this is not a love triangle in any way.

The sexual tension between these two was off the charts! Ryker also turns out to have a swoon worthy romantic side. I will say I found the "You complete me" line a tad cheesy because only Jerry McGuire can pull that off. However, I really did love what a sweet boyfriend he was. If watching twilight doesn't show you care then I don't know what will.

Dumb male adolescent behaviour is thrown into the mix when Ryker is offered a bet by his fellow teammates that will undoubtledly hurt Penelope if she finds out. This added some mild angst to the story and I enjoyed watching this play out. I loved the traces of humor in this book! A parrot who likes to curse, unicorn glitter lotion, a fascination with chest hair and terms like titlets really pull this book all together.

If you're looking for a fun, light college romance with humor and swoon, go check this one out!

Red and a baby llama

I loved getting to know Ryker in "I Dare You" he was that great best friend, while trying help make good decisions, he still had Maverick's back the entire time. I'll never forget when Delaney shows up to their form and comments about how "hairy" he is

I am 100% completely in love with this book. No questions asked. No doubt in my mind. I Bet You is the most excellent example of what a sports romance should be. I love nothing more than a sweet, swoony New Adult Romance and I Bet You hit every single one of my marks.

First off, you have Ryker Voss. Quarterback. Big Man on Campus. The guy every girl wants to be with. I mean, I wanted to be with him as soon as he was introduced. And I definitely wanted Penelope to be with him. But beyond all of the bravado that is Ryker Voss, was a troubled 20 year old with too much pressure mounted on his shoulders, and a lot of internal conflict that needed to be solved. This is what made me fall in love with him.

Penelope Graham is quirky and loves vampires. In one of the first scenes of the book, she’s wearing a Forks Twilight sweatshirt and I immediately knew I wanted to be her best friend. She’s funny, and quirky, and isn’t afraid to be herself. She knew who she was. She was a reader of romance novels, a lover of vampire movies, and the fun girl who had a parrot named Vampire Bill. There wasn’t one thing about her that I didn’t immediately fall in love with. She was the type of heroine I could really get behind because I saw so much of myself in her. And when she was with Ryker it was electric. Plus listening to her inner monologues where she inserted him into her pirate romances was rom-com gold!

I Bet You is the first book I’ve ever read by Isla Madden-Mills. I’m way behind on the train on this one, and think I might even have one of hers sitting on my bookcase that I got in a box a while back. But this book called to me, and the cover was so well done, I couldn’t help but pick it up and I’m eternally grateful that I did. Madden-Mills writing is on fire, and I flew through this book, finding it hard to put it down. Only because I knew I had to be up the next morning at 5 am, did I force myself to shut off my kindle and close my eyes. Now I can’t wait to see what other treasures she has in store for me!

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up this book, it’s a first for me by this author kind of, but I got it because of the narrators who are both amazing in this book.

I like how these two meet and how they become friends before anything else. It really was a great romance. These are the college/romance’s I like to listen to. Not too much drama but just enough to keep you engaged.

My favorite character is Penelope, she is just so uniquely herself and she doesn’t try to hide that. If you don’t like her then too bad for you. I love that. She isn’t rude or over the top she is just herself.

Ryker and his willingness get to know who Penelope is and even if he doesn’t like the same things she does he is still willing to see her point of view.
The ending really showed that….lmao that was the best ending.

I received an ARC from the author for a promise of an honest review.

I love I Bet You. Penelope and Ryker are a cute couple. I think it is funnier that it was Ryker who pushed for the relationship. Penelope wanted anyone but Ryker. She fought her attraction hard until a particular moment that changes things. They both overcome some personal issues. They both grow as characters and I really enjoyed that.

This was a pretty good. I actually read the the first couple chapters and wasn't sure if I liked it or not, but picked it up a 2nd time and it definitely got better further in.

Betting is a gamble

Enemies to Lovers dual point of view
Standalone
Penelope doesn’t like jocks because of her Dad and this viewpoint is solidified by the QB of her college team who involves her in several bets. Ryker is the QB who just wants her attention, but realizes he’s hurt her and tries to make it up to her. Will she accept the apologies or not?
Felt fast - especially the declarations
Liked that he stood up for her
Liked the resolution with her dad and sister
The announcement at the party felt more like attention seeking than real feeling
Want more Blaze and Charisma

While I listened to these out of order (already finished I Hate You), I really enjoyed this story. I saw them as a solid couple in the other book, so I enjoyed seeing the story of how they came together and reached their HEA.

Stella did a pretty good job with the narration, but I had issues with the male narrator who I felt sounded too old for this character.

God, what a book! I’m officially a fan of Ilsa Madden Mills. All the feels! From Delaney and Mav’s book I knew Ryker, because he is the best friend, and I knew I was going to like him –like a lot. But he blew me away, I want him for myself.

I loved this book, LOVE it. Characters are funny, emotional, going through a lot and are just simply amazing and perfect.

I can say a whole lot more but it will only be the same rambling on about how much I love this book and series so I’m going to stop here. I DEFINITELY 100% recommend this book. It’s perfect.

5/5 stars.

DNF. Cliched misogynistic rubbish.
