College sport romance.
Ryker and Penelope.
Cute and fun story. Everything starts with a bet, can Ryker get Penelope’s phone number? The football team is notorious for making bets but at what cost? Penelope is the cute, nerdy girl who’s a saint. However, the romance novels she tries to write is anything but innocent and her daydreaming is pornhub.com lol.
Ryker was is typical QB football player but this boy or man, is such a teddy bear. Yes, he could be arrogant at times but then super thoughtful and sweet. Penelope, she got on my nerves a lot. She didn’t like people judging her and acted like her shit don’t stink but she was the most judgmental of people, including her friends and family and specially of Ryker.
Ryker offer his help to get Penelope’s “unicorn” man by coaching her what to do and say. Turns out that Penelope’s unicorn guy is Ryker.
Favorite character: Penelope’s parrots, Vampire Bill. I needed more of him.

Ryker has definitely grown up and changed from the first book. The events at the end of the first book make the transformation plausible. Readers who have not read the first book will still be able to follow along, as his past is discussed, just not really elaborated on as in the first book.
Penelope and Ryker make a great couple. A few minor misadventures along the way make it interesting. Ryker is very much the one pursuing her and I appreciate that he wasn't sleeping with anyone else while he was waiting for her.
Enjoyable read!

I BET you’ll love it!
The characters were exciting and the story flowed smoothly. Their chemistry was fire and I craved more. Their relationship is built naturally. I absolutely loved all the book/nerd references!

Defense vs. offense. Which side will take home the bet trophy? Captain and quarterback of the football team has to complete a bet and the win is his. Only problem is, Penelope would be collateral damage.
Throughout the book I was completely enchanted by the chemistry between Penelope and Ryker. Their back and forth had me covering my mouth and giggling like a schoolgirl in on a juicy secret.
We meet Ryker in the first book, I Dare You, and I was really looking forward to learning more about him. His personality and kind nature was very endearing but I would have liked to have learned a bit more about his background. His upbringing is mentioned a couple of times but never fully explored leaving much to be desired.
I also felt that Penelope’s relationship with her family needed a Breyer resolution. She moved forward with repairing her relationship with her father and stepsister, Margo, but I would have liked to have seen her attempt a relationship with Cora and Cyan as well since she seems to go back and forth in her mind about it.
Overall, I thought the book was great and Penelope and Ryker’s story deserved to be read.

This whole book made me nauseous.
The fact that the ENTIRE team sees no problem basically betting on a woman's virtue (it certainly doesn't help that Penelope is a virgin in this scenario, but even if she weren't it's still disgusting)--turning her into little more than a piece of meat REALLY grosses me out. How am I supposed to read about other dudes on this team when they're ALL going along with Archer's bet? Encouraging Ryker to go for it with a woman who clearly doesn't want anything to do with him?
Because of that, this will be the LAST story I read in this series.
Particularly because the next book is Blaze's. And he's the main one pressuring Ryker to go through with the bet in this one.
<b>"Come on, man," he says as we walk out of the field house. "What's so bad about the bet?"</b>
He seriously doesn't see what's wrong with that bet? Seriously? And you expect me to read an ENTIRE book about him?
Nope. No thanks.
Okay, so. Obvious question. Why did I bother finishing this one, then?
I honestly don't know. Morbid curiosity, I guess. It was a short read, so I didn't figure it was going to get too deep, sort of like how the first book didn't get too deep. Maybe I was hoping this wouldn't play out like a 90's teeny-bopper movie where the girl walks in slow motion down a set of stairs.
Alas, from the moment the bet was made, I couldn't take ANY of the interactions between Ryker and Penelope seriously. And the fact that I'm like 38% certain Penelope has at least 1 screw loose doesn't help AT ALL.
She literally reads as flighty and maybe a little...not all with it. I think it's supposed to make her quirky, but the author overshot it into "maybe she's actually mentally unwell."
Which only makes this bet all the worse. A possibly mentally-challenged virgin young woman with massive trust issues regarding football players because her dad was a shitty person (daddy issues, much) falling for a dude who's known to be a playboy and who's only fucking around with her because a scumbag teammate bet him to?
Super awesome story concept.
Anyway, this one was difficult to get through. In short:
- The characters were...difficult...to vibe with. To say the least.
- There's a gross obsession with the dude's body hair.
- The 'fantasies' Penelope has are cringe-worthy in the extreme, and she fucks off into lala land way too often, that I seriously questioned her mental stability. Girl seriously can't hold a single conversation without staring off into the distance and envisioning being fucked by some randy pirate or something (this actually happens).
- Over half of this VERY short book involves Ryker (very poorly) helping Penelope get the attention of another dude she supposedly has a crush on.
- The team being all for the sex bet made me queasy.
- There wasn't ANY time spent on Ryker stating he'd never take the bet, we have to learn from Margo (a tertiary character) that she <i>overheard</i> him say something to the effect of not taking the bet on.
- And that's apparently enough for Penelope to completely forgive Ryker.
- And the BFF's advice to Pen? <b>"He's a man. He reacted like a Neanderthal. Plus, dude, he's never been in a relationship. He doesn't know how to act. You've got to train him up right."</b> Which is the most 'boys will be boys' response I've read in recent memory. How is the heroine's BFF not siding with HER? How is she defending the meathead who degraded her friend and humiliated her by turning her into a sex object in front of a whole TEAM'S worth of other meatheaded men? Including the one who threatened her and made unwanted sexual advances toward her, when she was stranded, ALONE, in the dark??????? I'm sorry what the fuck even WAS this response?
- There was nowhere near enough groveling to make up for Ryker's fuckup.
- Waylon University beats UGA. (This is almost more offensive than the bet, for a GA girlie, not gonna lie)
- Parrots cannot roll their eyes (and yet, the one in this book does, often). But I certainly could. And did. A lot.

Not good. Not bad. Really cringe. Don’t think I’ll ever reread it or read any of the others in the series. It’s more high school than college vibes to me. I didn’t think homecoming was a big deal in college… at least not to me so it was weird that it was all focused around the homecoming game instead of did like the championship or whatever big rival game they would have.
I Bet You
This is now the 3rd book I’ve read from this author in less than a month and the one I like most so far. This author writes about quirky women who are involved with athletes. Each woman has something unique about them that draws the athletes to them as they are bored with the “jersey chasers” they usually sleep around with. This series focuses on football players. While it’s not necessary to read “I Dare You”, Ryker is introduced in that book as the best friend of Maverick, the guy who is involved in the fighting scandal that is mentioned in this book. The scandal really rocked Ryker’s foundation and he’s still reeling from the fallout. Penelope writes for the school paper and did a not so nice story on the scandal which is how our two heroes are introduced. The football team has a bet board that the players believe help morale on the playing field and this is the story of how one of those bets plays out.
I LOVED

Oh my! I loved this book!
Ryker and Penelope were great characters!
I think that this is one of the best college romance books I've read in a while.
The story line was awesome, there was a twist I didn't see coming.
Ryker and Penelope don't like each other. He's your typical jock and she don't take his BS. When they finally start actually talking to each other they find that they have an amazing connection.
No one sees their relationship coming but one person tries to end it before it even gets started.
I highly recommend this to anyone who likes college sports romance.
