Losing it out of love for this book, I'll spare the lengthy set of essays I've written on it in a frenzy for myself and just say, I adore it, highly recommend.

5/5 … I honestly truly believed this was a true story due to the self-insert. This was completely engrossing and infinitely better than the movie (which was also very good — regardless if you enjoyed the movie, I think you ought to read this because you get to see more of the characters’ perspectives). I thought the movie was feminist in nature (despite the critiques about the male fantasy (ie creating Frankenstein’s monster as the ideal woman to be molded into a bride) (because really, if you only watched the movie and put yourself in Bella’s shoes, is it really the male fantasy or is it you projecting patriarchal viewpoints onto Bella’s actions and then realizing Bella is a fully formed woman with intellect and desires and curiosity but lives in a society that hasn’t progressed enough to provide it?)) but the book goes even further. It really is just so incredible in the ways it calls out flaws in society.
And praising of public health and radical socialism — what more could I ask for?!

Wonderful concept but shockingly the movie was exponentially better — the format didn’t work well for me in the book.
