After finishing all of Ten's episodes I wanted more so I definitely got more. Don't know how I feel about Gabby but still.

Gabby Gonzalez works in her father’s laundromat. One day while she is there, all of the washing mashines turn on at the same time and open a portal. Everyone in New York starts acting strangely, but they just assume it’s because it is the Day of the Dead. Then the Doctor shows up. There are creatures that play on people’s fears that attach themselves to humans. They entered through Gabby’s washing machines. Only the Doctor can save them now.
This is a good continuation of the Tenth Doctor’s adventures. I love that even though some doctors are gone, they can live on in the comics and novels.
The graphic novel played out in the same way that the TV series does when a new companion enters. Gabby was introduced and then we get her reaction to the Doctor. It’s like watching the series with new characters.
One thing that bothered me is that it was set in New York. I wish the graphic novels were set in London like the majority of the show. It’s a British show so the graphic novels should continue that tradition.

I had super high hopes for this. I mean, it's a TENTH DOCTOR GRAPHIC NOVEL. WITH A LATINA PROTAGONIST!!!
Sadly, it didn't live up to my hopes. It was...overly wordy a lot of the time, and it was a little hard to follow. The book is actually two completely different stories that didn't fit together in any way. I mean, it's Doctor Who, so you'd totally expect two episodes to be totally unrelated. But for some reason, when they're bound into a single volume, it was jarring.
Anyway. Gabby is a fun character. I liked the art. The cover is pretty damned great. I liked the second story better than the first. That's pretty much all the thoughts I can muster up at this point.

This was a disappointment.
The first story introduces us to the new companion, Gabby. She lives in present day Brooklyn, is young, and has Mexican roots. Her family owns a restaurant and a laundry mat, and her father is pressuring her to carry on the family businesses, but Gabby has a passion for art. Gee, I've never heard this before. A Mexican father who is controlling and set in his ways...a young girl who loves art but is being forced to pursue business...
To make matters worse the featured alien species feeds off human emotion. Not only have we seen this in other Doctor Who stories...
But it is very similar to the first issue of the new Eleventh Doctor Comic that came out at the exact same time!
The second story was worse. The plot was slightly more interesting- a look at futurist art- but artwork coming to life isn't anything new.
However, the real problem with this story is that for some unknown reason, it is told through Gabby's journal (sort of). If you are going to do the whole past tense, first person journal perspective, you have to stick with it. You can't show us scenes that do not contain Gabby for starters (there is a lame sentence thrown in along the lines of well at least that's what the doctor told me. It just didn't work. It was confusing, inconsistent, and difficult to read. Plus, instead of developing the character (I assume that was the purpose) it diluted her. She lost some of the personality she gained in the first story. In fact, I felt like they weren't even the same person.
On top of all that, the normally charismatic Tenth Doctor was never given the chance to shine.
The author really seemed to be phoning it in on this one.

Bought this for my niece but wanted to give it a read first, since I adore the 10th doctor. I found the storyline not as deep or witty as I was hoping, but I assume the target audience is children. It would be a FANTASTIC gift for a young girl who likes comic books. As an adult, I was not super into it, but given how few comics there are that have strong female leads and no over the top violence, it is an easy 4-stars.

Español:
Interesante cómic basada en la serie Doctor Who, con el décimo doctor como protagonista...y una nueva acompañante: Gabriela.
Reseña sin spoilers: https://youtu.be/z1shAIEG86U
English:
At last! Doctor Who comics in Spanish. With the 10th Doctor and a Mexican companion!
I loved the premised and there were some hints to the series and it was fun. However, I also expected more.
