This book is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Each character is so incredibly complex and utterly human. Evaristo writes in a heart-racing, fast paced, emotive manner like no other author I’ve ever read and I fell in love with the stories she wove. It genuinely brought me to tears reading Morgan’s story - a person who’s gone through an awfully similar life path to me - and it felt so comforting reading them being so well represented in this writing. I adored this book, and even the characters I didn’t love as much, I still cared for their story. Evaristo really makes you see every complexity of a person and I think this novel could be truly perspective changing for a lot of people. Seriously incredible book

Although at first the unusual breaks in sentences punctuation were a little hard to get used to (a bit like reading poetry), the overall structure of the book was beautifully crafted to create multiple characters, all with vastly different stories that nevertheless intertwine. This book explores so many perspectives, all from minority characters, while tackling issues such as racism, homophobia and sexism (as well as delving into aspects of transphobia and colourism) in our current time as well as the past.
