* Review + some thoughts on the series. *
Well I read book 2 & 3 on the same day, one in English and the other in Portuguese. It’s at these times I’m glad I know more than 1 language. ☺️
So this book… was something. Not as good as the second one but also not that bad.
I liked that we got James being accepted in Ruby‘s family and actually live with them too.
I loved that both Ruby & James stuck to what they said about no more secrets and actually kept that promise.
However I wish we would’ve gotten more out of them in Oxford and after even if it was on an epilogue.
I also think Mortimer could’ve been done with sooner and not at the end. It was so anticlimactic especially the way it happened. It was very disappointing to finish the book and know nothing happened to him besides him not having Beaufort which wasn’t even his to begin with. I also hate him. While I can understand that James & Lydia have very complicated feelings towards him, it just didn’t feel right reading that scene and seeing that he would just be gone and not like in prison where he should be. That irks me to no end but hey the silver lining is that At least the Beaufort twins don’t have to worry about him anymore but when I think about it, Mortimer feels like a plague that would just stuck with you and never leave you alone.
Also when I think about it he works as a Cupid in some aspects and I don’t know what to do with that information😣
I liked the side love stories BUT why don’t I know what happened between Wren & Ember? I was invested by the end and I couldn’t tell if they stayed friends or are dating. I hate not knowing.
Oh also Kesh & Aleistar, FINALLY got their sh!! together. I don’t like that Kesh was very dismissive towards Alaistar just because no one knew what was happening and he was afraid. Alaistar is a more sensitive person so Kesh should’ve know better. I’m glad they got what they wanted tho.
Also Lydia & Graham finally a thing?! I mean it was never ending suffering from Lydia since forever. I’m so happy for her and Graham. He stood up to Mortimer which made me jump and down on my couch and cheer him on. It was satisfying!
I loved Ophelia. She was wise, heartwarming and everything they needed. I loved her vibe.
Percy, the driver. Where do I begin… at the end of season 1 I thought maybe Percy was actually the twins father because what else would give „excuse“ for Mortimer to treat his son and daughter like that. Not that it would excuse what he did all his life … But in the books it didn’t give me that vibe at all. He seems just like the driver but he’s a bit more than that.
Anyway I feel like Percy didn’t do enough. He could’ve reach out to the twins or tried to know about them and not wait for them to reach out which I hoped I would read that particular scene but also didn’t happen.
I was happy with him tho.
Like I said above, some stuff could’ve been added like those periods of times I mentioned above because I’m still not sure James is 100% okay. Is there such a thing as parent ptsd or something because he would have it for sure. I hope no one has a father like him did, ever.
In conclusion: I know Season 2 of Maxton Hall is gonna be me balling my eyes out for different reasons because if Damian acts as amazing as he did in Season 1 I’m done for. I’m telling you, this guy is different. Either that or this role just fits him like a glove. There are not many actor/ actress that pulls much emotion out of me but Damian does it every time and I can’t wait for it.

Thank you so much Berkley for gifting me an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I loved this book series and the tv show adaptation so much! It’s definitely one of my favorite contemporary romances!!
For this book specifically, it was a little slower for me compared to the other two. I feel like this partly had to do with me starting school again and not having as much time to read. However, I’ve slowly been working my way through and still really enjoyed it!
This book had a lot of interesting turns and plot points that I wasn’t expecting! I think the plot wrapped up the series pretty well. However, I did feel like the ending was a little bit rushed and that there were some filler moments throughout the book. This series probably could’ve been a duology.
For the romance, I still love James and Ruby. I loved how their relationship really matured in this book. I like that while the author did include a little bit of spice, she still made sure they had a strong emotional connection fueled by trust and friendship within their relationship.
As for the other romances: I loved Lydia and Graham. Lydia is still my favorite character from this whole series and I loved her development so so much! I didn’t really care for Ember and Wren’s story however, they definitely got better by the end and I think Ember matured a lot more in this book as well.
I feel like there is still some information missing. Such as what ever happened with Lin and Cyril? I’m also still wondering what went on with Percy and James/Lydia’s mother that was alluded to at the end? Definitely a little rushed and some plot holes at times.
Overall, I still enjoyed this book and really loved the series! Definitely recommend if you like contemporary romance and are interested I watching or enjoyed the tv show!!
Thank you once again to the publisher for gifting me an e-arc on NetGalley!
