This is definitely going to be my favorite of the series. I loved the plot, the characters, and the portrayal of ADHD, something I haven't seen portrayed as well in other books. Rush is a beautiful character, and I adore the relationship that developed between him and Hunter.

"Ian told me all the time that he cared. Hunter shows me. The difference between the two is glaringly obvious."

As someone who struggles with ADHD, it is so refreshing to read it represented so incredibly accurately, that I want to share this book with people in my life and be like “SEE! This is what it’s like!!!”

I wanted to give this 4 stars, only because Hunter felt a little underdeveloped as a character, but ultimately went with 5 stars because of the accurate portrayal of what it’s like to struggle with neurodiversity every moment of the day. And I realized Hunter needed to be less of a personality because he was Rush’s “calm”.

Rush is a beautiful soul, and Saxon was able to make me attach to him from the very beginning. I cried when he cried at the beginning of the book, I felt his anxiety and frustration and joy.

Such a beautiful story, and one that will stick with me for years to come.

Loved it (rounded up)

Rush is pure sunshine in human form. Like, if a baby golden retriever and a double rainbow had a child, it would be him. I 100% gave an extra half-star just for his existence. He’s out here smiling through internal existential crises, trying to save the world one chaotic good decision at a time, and honestly? I'll throw down my life without question to protect him forever.

Hunter is a walking green flag. His entire life is crumbling like a sad little cookie and yet he still meets every disaster Rush with kindness and patience (even while internally screaming into the void). What started as the world’s worst meet-cute turned into a full-blown HR nightmare, but did Hunter ever lose his cool? Barely. He jumps in feet first and co-parents P.L. Ant with Rush. The ant puns? SpectANTular. (Sorry, I will not be accepting constructive criticism at this time.)

Watching their relationship unfold was pure serotonin. It was a slow burn, but like, slow-burn lite. They took a minute physically, but emotionally? They clicked faster than toddlers at a birthday party with one bouncy castle..

Of course, the Big Bertha Boys are back, being their hilarious, supportive selves. And P.L. Ant? 10/10, no notes. The ant puns were spectANTular (I’ll see myself out, thanks).

Originally, I docked half a star because Rush’s job situation felt a bit unrealistic. He’s got untreated ADHD (which was portrayed really well), but pre-Hunter, I don't see most companies putting up with...all that. Unless this company was secretly run by golden retrievers, too, it felt a little sus. But Rush is made of golden retriever energy and fairy dust, so I decided reality could sit down and hush. Half-star reinstated.

Fake dating + revenge plot = my personal crack. This book delivered, fed me, tucked me in, and kissed my forehead goodnight. I've been reading this series completely out of order (chaotic energy only) and now Xander’s the last man standing. I’m excited. I’m terrified. I’m unwell. (If I were Xander, I'd need to be taken to the Pharmacy because I think I'm going to die when this series ends.)

And finally, Teddy Hamilton absolutely devoured the audiobook. As he always does. Honestly, at this point, I trust Teddy more than most major life choices.
