I was surprised by how enjoyable this was. At times, it dragged--caught up in its own plot (the group of alcoholics subplot specifically could have been cut.).

The tone though was just perfect. Creepy and scary but a slow burn. Good new vampire lore.

I guess this book was okay..
I mean there was nothing soooo wrong about it but it was too good or anything.
It was pretty predictable and had a lot of characters, with confusing names, that i did not undersand why they where there in the book.

Read the book after viewing the film, rarely a good thing but in this case, a recommendation (really, see the film - it's wonderful!). The first 1/2 of this book reads like the script from the movie, albeit more fleshed out. And then, around page 250, it goes off the rails. I understand and am grateful much was left out of the cinematic edition as my imagination was able to provide and/or tone down the more gruesome details.

Enjoyed it immensely.

One of the coolest vampire stories I've ever read, also perhaps the most disturbing thing I've ever read.
One thing I found especially interesting is the characterization of Elie - their gender expression was one of the fun surprises halfway through the book, but more importantly I like that theyre still 12, even though theyre a 200 year old vampire -pretty much all other vampire stories have their child vamps possess the mind of an adult, and it was interesting to see another expression.  Also the biology of the vampiric disease was FASCINATING!

Stephen King and Clive Barker have very little over Mr. Lindqvist, as proven by this tale. Telling a new vampire story is hard to do, but Let Me In pulls it off. Very, very graphic and disturbing content that the movie versions largely skimmed off. Looking forward to reading his Handling the Undead book...
