A very odd book, centering on a bullied child’s friendship with a vampire. Very graphic and gorey in places. Not a great deal of play for a book 500+ pages. Strange ending

Quite dark and daring, but an interesting story. The pace felt a little slow at times, and a couple of tangents felt a bit inconsequential. Overall engaging and tense. A solid read.

Honestly, the humans (both adults and children) are far more horrifying than the vampire.

I would've given it a 4, except it was a bit tedious reading, and the content was a little too disturbing to be enjoyable.

Edit: Also, I really wish someone had warned me about how much disgusting pedophilia is in this book. It turned my stomach. I probably would not have read this book if I knew about it ahead of time. It's not even somewhat there. It's totally in your face, and very often.
