I had a horrible phase of reading nothing but british chick-lit.
It also resulted in a year's worth of journal entries that sound exactly like they were yanked from Bridget Jones' Diary.
shudder!

It's just meh to me. I couldn't relate to Becky at all because when I first read this I was 14, broke, and completely uninterested in shopping, (modern) fashion, and luxury/brand-name items. This may be biased of me, but I really can't understand the appeal of very high-end/luxury items. I get hotels and cars, but clothes and accessories? I get that it's important to invest in well-made clothing and accessories, but paying half a million or so for a small leather tote or a pair of pumps?
I also didn't (and still don't) like being financially indebted to someone who's not a close friend or family member. I found Becky very irresponsible and didn't find her funny at all. It's a wonder the LI fell for her...oh, wait. I just called him LI.

I’ve never hated a main character before but I despised her. I was so frustrated with her internal monologue that I couldn’t finish the book… not my cup of tea!

I didn’t really have time but i’ll try again another time

The pool party discussion book. This discussion was fun since we all had to have a "shopaholic" confession. None of us were as bad as the main character of course.

Good pool/beach read. You can only read so many of this series. I think by the third book I'd had enough.

3 stars because some part of it was ridiculously hilarious and there's that. I can't believe I am saying this but the movie version is a much better story. I was expecting the part where Becky learn the lesson the hard way but it wasn't there. It was kinda flat. She's just a really, really, really lucky woman and that's all. Oh, and I bet the compulsive shopper is still in her somewhere :P

You know, very relatable lol my head thinks like hers, my brain is like oh god why but do it anyway - from what I remember of the movie which has been a while since I watched, this was very on point! Adorable and informative ... learning something while reading some drama is awesome!

This was the perfect light-hearted read that I needed following my completion of How To Survive a Plague. Everything about this book is just fun, but grounded in such realism that in many ways makes this book so relatable like we've all been Rebecca at some point in our lives lets be honest.

Now let's talk about Rebecca because I think she is arguably one of the best 'chick-lit' or 'rom-com' whatever you wanna call it - Characters of all time. I am prepared to die on this hill fight me if you dare. There are many points in the novel where her actions are just so genuine and human, that you can't help but root for her. I am around a similar age to Rebecca and some of the things she was going through in this novel is what I am going through now, and it was nice to see some of my insecurities and worries about life spoken about in such a reliable and accessible way.

Sophie Kinsella honestly just won me over massively, I never picked up the book adaptation until now. And it is one of the instances where I like both book and film's diverging narratives an equal amount. In both instances Rebecca just shines and the reader/viewer have the time of their lives, its fun, its fashion its just everything you want in a wholesome read. I may be tempted to pick up the rest of the series.
