I really enjoyed all the behind the scenes in this book. True crime is just so interesting and it breaks my heart that there are so many cold cases out there waiting to be picked up. My only concern is Paul Holes relationship with Sherrie. He truly has a gift when it comes to investigating and I hope he can continue to do that but still have time for his family. Heroes need free time too.
I listened to the audiobook and the author is the narrator which means he isn’t a professional reader. It got better when I changed the speed to 1.2… I liked the book and the subject is fascinating and scary. Joseph DeAngelo was the Golden State Killer who raped 50+ women and killed 13. He was finally caught due to Ancestry testing.
Very ADHD writing style. Bounced around to different cases almost every paragraph and barely wrote a page on popular cases like jaycee dugard and Laci Peterson. Left me wanting much more.
The narrative is so disjointed, it was hard to connect to the book. The writing in this book is kind of all over the place, making it hard to really get into the story. They throw in The Golden State Killer's story, but it's done in such a confusing way that it feels overwhelming. There are other stories tossed in, but they don't seem to connect to the main one. No life lessons or introspection here, just gruesome cases he has seen. Paul says his life goal is solving cold cases, and that's to a fault. The way he treats his family is rough to read throughout the WHOLE book. I was hoping for some character development, but even at the end, spoiler, he is still picking work over family. His ego is off the charts, and there were so many times I had to stop and cringe at how much he was patting himself on the back. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this book.

Moderate: Panic attacks/disorders, Pedophilia, Sexual assault, Abandonment
Minor: Alcoholism, Suicide, Stalking
Although many parts of this non-fiction true-crime book are interesting (and certainly disturbing), I also found it hard to keep track of a lot. The writing felt scattered and all over the place. Often there were names but no description of who that person was. I think there was potential for better writing and/or editing here.
