If you enjoy true crime you will enjoy Unmasked. It amazes me just how long done cases are investigated before ever being solved.
Listened to on audio, read by the author. Couldn’t stop listening. Finished in a day. The author is obsessed with cold cases. His work helped find the Golden State Killer. For true Crime lovers.
Very interesting! The timeline was a tiny bit confusing but this was highly readable, not too technical, and informative.
Paul Holes is an investigator that specializes in cold cases. He made a name for himself with the Golden State Killer, who he pursued for years. I found all of the information about using forensics and DNA to solve old cases very interesting. This book is really dark and includes a lot of graphic details about rapes and murders. It was a tough read.
The other part of this memoir was Paul Holes' family life. His obsession with cases harmed his relationship with both his first and current wife and his children. While his work ethic is admirable, I left the book sad about single-minded pursuit of criminals to the detriment of his own family life.

This book is so real, raw, and deep. I like that he talks about both his work, but also the affects his work had on his mental health and personal life. Incredible story.
