Somehow, I was riveted by his personal life, despite the fact that I picked up the book to find out about him catching the Golden State Killer.
Highly recommend the audiobook. I listened to it all day long from start to finish. He comes across as an earnest guy.
I was pleasantly surprised to hear him speak respectfully about sex workers, transgender people, and people of color. I braced myself when those topics came up, as Holes is a white man in his fifties and cop-adjacent.
This book does reveal how he caught the Golden State Killer, but I wouldn't read it just to learn about that. It is a memoir that focuses on how his obsession with that case damaged his relationship with his family.

Maybe the audiobook edition was the problem but I found it hard to keep track of. Never really knew what point in time we were or why we kept jumping around through the years lol.

I could not put this down, it was such an enjoyable read. I would put this in the top rankings of any true crime books. Throughout the whole thing you can feel the passion that Paul has got the work that he does and helping the victims. It was a very genuine telling of his own story and the Golden State Killer case, as well as many others that I was familiar with and others I had never heard of. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys a good story.
