The vulnerability it takes to write a book that touches on body dysmorphia and disordered eating shines in Choi’s writing. The story was written so beautifully and shows the healing it takes at the end of the story. I truly enjoyed reading this book!

AHHHH god this was special. Another book that I for some reason forgot to mark as finished at the time of reading it, sorry about that. Mary H.K. Choi is a NEXT LEVEL New Adult author and I've loved her writing since her first book — she just keeps getting better. So much of Yolk is heartbreaking yet tender, and then the ending is so achingly hopeful. It's realistic and snarky and full of love. GOD! CW for cancer content, which I know can be hard for people, but wow highly recommend.

yknow i’ll never know if this book would’ve made me cry like everyone said it did for them but i really could not push pass the pretentious writing and the glaringly unlikeable characters. it’s disappointing since i had wanted to read this for so long but i just couldn’t handle this style of writing. not my cup of tea

Throughout this book I was between a 3.5 and a 5, so I'll give it a 4.25.
It was so authentic and vulnerable. There were so many connections between the different stories and there were many different plots all centering around two sisters. I can't believe Mary H.K. Choi wrote this (not in a bad way, in an "it was an amazing feat that she created this very honest, detailed and complicated story" way). I have to applaud her for that. Also, I liked that there were real Korean experiences and people!
Before Reading:
I've disliked both Permanent Record and Emergency Contact, so hopefully I'll like this one!
