this book is always a 5 star in my heart, but the audiobook narrator left a little to be desired. she was ok, but i think i just prefer male narrators.
Cole seems like a good writer. The characters are distinctive and not irritating. The writing is strong. The story just isn't clicking with me and while the scenario is kind of interesting, the chemistry between the two characters just isn't resonating with me, for some reason. Natalie and her father are fairly likable. I feel meh about Sevastyan. I know he's fighting his feelings because of the conflict of his attraction, as a bodyguard, to his boss's daughter, but I'm not feeling tension while reading.
Sometimes, the use of the Russian language (followed by an English explanation) gets kind of tiring. Otherwise, I think others would like this but it's just not for me.

With this book being the first in this series, it almost made me not want to continue the series. The book was unrealistic and felt very redundant. I didn't care much for the heroine, Nat. At first she came off like a independent, feminist, but with Sev she was a pushover. Sev was the typical dom/enforcer. I believe this storyline has been done so much where I could barely be connected with this book. Jess, the supporting character, was the best in this book. HEA!

I Liked that Natalie's "sassy bold girl" wasnt limited to just being annoying to everyone around her (she had her annoying moments in the beginning but she made up for it). Also, the steam......was STEAMY AF
Sometimes you just have to throw all your notions of what’s possible out the window. This book has so many WTF things going on. It’s not a contemporary that you are going to think “ that could totally happen to me.”
Our heroine is working her way through college. She has three jobs and is a doctoral student. She’s adopted and has been searching for her family. She’s a virgin and although loves the idea of sex, she’s never found the right guy. Until she spots a real badass at the bar on a random night. She tries to buy him a drink but he turns her down flat.
Our hero is an enforcer for the Russian Mob. Because of course he is. He’s in the U.S. watching a girl whose DNA shows she’s his bosses daughter. He’s intrigued and then she hits on him in a bar.
Do you see where this is going? Do you think that they might end up in a forced proximity situation? I mean, I’m only guessing but something tells me they’re going to see each other again. Like maybe when he breaks into her house to watch her masturbate in the bathtub. As one does. I mean, we’ve all been there.
Then there’s danger and an immediate trip to
Russia to meet good ol dad. There is a charming cousin (?) that everyone thinks she should want. But does she? With a hot enforcer nearby? Psssh, heroine would never.
There’s danger, push & pull, will they or won’t they, a turf war of sorts, betrayal. A sex club, hiding, and lots of sexy times.
So if any of that sounds good to you, give this book a shot. Just don’t think it’s a Tuesday kind of romance.....

Really enjoyed this one! Great story that was laugh-out-loud hilarious at times, a little bit sad other times and a whole LOT of hot and sexy! I'm not normally a fan of BDSM books but this one worked for me and I really loved it!
