Natalie has been on a years long hunt for her birth family. As she waits to hear back from her PI, she goes out with her friends to a bar .
Ever the self proclaimed "man-alyzer" , she sets her eyes on the sexy, tall and brooding Sevastyan. He doesn't fall into her charms and leaves the bar.
Shot down and wounded, Natalie goes back to her apartment and takes a bath. She doesn't expect to see Sevastyan there telling her she is to go to Russia with him to meet her long lost father.
Natalie embarks on a journey to Russia where she sees (and lives) the opulent lifestyle her father lavishes her in all while teasing and tempting Sevastyan who is trying hard not to fall for his boss's daughter.
Tragedy strikes, and Natalie is whisked away again by Sevastyan who vows to protect her and the legacy her father left behind. He keeps her locked away and shows her pleasures in the dark of night that keeps her in between wanting to run yet stay forever.
This was my first novel by Kresley Cole and oh my was it so captivating!! This is part of a series and though they can be read as standalones, I think they fall into better sequence when read in order!

I wasn't originally planning on reading this series so by the time I read this it was the full version and it felt disjointed to me. I enjoyed the first part (some of the middle) far more than the last parts. Personally, Aleksandr was a little too messed up for me towards the end. Still a great Kresley Cole read.
**I received this book for free via a goodreads first-reads giveaway.
I love Kresley Cole's Arcana series but haven't gotten around to trying her Immortals After Dark series. With my love for the Arcana series in mind I was very excited to read this book and it didn't disappoint. I enjoyed it infinitely more than other books of it's genre like 50 Shades of Grey and Bared to You. I found myself able to identify with Natalie much more then any women in any of the other dom/sub books I've read.

So, overall, this book very much falls into the category of erotica than romance for me, and with that comes something of a warning: this book is HOT but it has some seriously problematic elements, namely the “hero” in here is very much a textbook original alpha type, which I personally found stayed into the realms of domestic abuse in places. There is a lot of talk of “ownership” and “possession” of the heroine by the hero and it wasn’t in a sexy bedroom way either, but in a controlling and consuming her whole life kind of way. I found this particularly egregious between the 75%-90% points in the book (I was reading on kindle) and there was a point when I considered DNF’ing the book, but I persevered and in many ways I’m glad I did. The author really tried to save things by softening him considerably for the final 10% but I’m not wholly convinced it worked. Furthermore, the storyline requires a significant suspension of disbelief (and not in a way that I enjoy in fantasy) as it is a particularly bananas-pants contemporary. What pulled be out of the story the most, and made it abundantly clear to me that this book was written by an American, was the decision of the characters to rent a car to drive from St Petersburg to Paris - no right minded European would ever do such a thing!

wow, aleksandr was a piece of work. hot… but a piece of work.

I read this as the 3 separate short stories and I also listened to the audible! I loved loved loved it and I’m so excited to learn more about all these brothers. Aleksai/Roman’s story was so heartbreaking. And his pseudo father which was the h biological father was absolutely completely open about the excitement he felt for finding his unknown daughter and the love he had for both the H and h was amazing. It was a nice change of pace to see the big badass Pakhan, boss of the Bratva being able to show love and happiness. I love how when Aleksai was all in her was ALL in and would follow her wherever she went. Loved this book and so excited to read the next one!
