I liked it. I like Jeanette Winterson, and this one has some passages to recommend it, but it's my least favorite of hers so far. Some moments recalling Invisible Cities (which is a plus for me) but without the obsessive structure and knife-to-psyche thoroughness (which is unfortunate).
Maybe I wasn’t in the mood but like the symbolism and the cryptic imagery was way too forced
Good, v good but I think I wanted – expected something more along the lines of Lighthousekeeping?
4.5 stars. I think this is my favorite by her, so far. It reminded me of Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber and a little of Calvino. And what a terrific writing style!
Jeanette Winterson’ın okuduğum ikinci kitabı. Tek Meyve Portakal Değildir’in tarzıyla çok farklı yazmış. Çok etkileyici bir anlatım ve özgün bir konu. 135’inci sayfadan sonra insan resmen afallıyor çünkü kitabın ve karakterlerin çok farklı bir yönünü keşfediyoruz. Baştan beri zaten hikayenin içinde başka bir hikaye var ancak sonra bir tanesi daha ekleniyor ve kitap daha da güzelleşiyor.
Kitaptaki soyutluk benim çok hoşuma gitti. İnsanın kitabı kendine göre bin bir biçimde yorumlayıp farklı anlamlar çıkarmasına sebep oluyor ki bunu birçok yazar bu kadar iyi yapamaz. Kitapta belirli bir olay olmasa da çok akıcı ve merakla okuyorsunuz. Toplumsal ve çevresel birçok mesaj serpiştirilmiş kitap boyunca ve hiç zorlama durmuyor. Ara sıra yapılan felsefi monologlar da muhteşem. İnsanın zaman ve boyut kavramlarını bir kez daha sorgulamasını sağlıyor. Kesinlikle düşüne düşüne okunması gereken bir kitap. Tam bir sanat eseri. Okurken kitabı resmen bir tablo olarak görüyorsunuz.

This is a weird book. But that weirdness allowed for gems of thought that would’ve been unachievable without a non-linear, slightly non-sensical plot. I imagine people who regard this as some of the best writing they’ve read (and those people exist) are likely people who do not factor into their reading experience a firm grasp on structure. Unfortunately I’m not quite there yet, but I enjoyed the reading experience non-the-less.
One of my all-time favorite novels. I've reread it countless times and it always messes with my head and my heart in all the best ways.
Not my favorite of Winterson's. But still enough beauty to make me long to write like that.
