Swept up in the multiple story lines and the intrigue of piecing together long-lost history. Loved the plot of a woman fighting to be relevant in the 1600s and modern day.

This is one of those books that's pure literature. The characters are compelling and the research is impeccable, but it also doesn't take itself too seriously that it can't have moments of levity. It has a fun ending and even features historical LGTBQIA+ that doesn't have an unhappy ending! Well worth its weight in gold.

I had a tough time rating this one. I really enjoyed the story of Ester forging her own path in the 1600s as a female scribe and philosopher. However, there was a lot that I felt could be taken out without detriment to the novel. By the end, I just wanted it to be done. It was too long, pedantic and self-serving, and at times, boring. Unfortunate, really, because the core of an excellent novel is there. It just got bogged down.
