A true life lesson of enjoy what you have while you have it and don’t go trying to recreate a moment or thing. It’ll never be the same. So deep Roald.

My English teacher would give this 5/5 for alliteration, onomatopoeia and all those other ones which he used. I gave it 3.5 because of the comments on cornflakes and the fact granny’s clothes grew with her. Disappointing in more ways than one

Read this as kid. Now finished reading it to my children. My oldest enjoyed. It's great book to read to children.

After not reading any Roald Dahl since I was a child I was excited to reread one of his classics, (really aren't they all classics?) George's Marvellous Medicine. A brilliant children's book displaying the dangers of greed and presenting the differences between children and adults. This book shows how children can get their own back on cruel adults - although I would not recommend anyone making 'medicine' from the ingredients George uses! I found it interesting how instantly George's dad wanted him to recreate the medicine after seeing its effects, wanting to profit from his creation, suggesting that adult capitalistic greed can never be fulfilled. George is portrayed as the 'little guy' struggling against his family and attempting to stand up for himself against them. I cannot believe this book was first published in 1981, it is still funny, relevant and enjoyable (as are all Dahl books). I would defiantly recommend this book to any reader, young or old. Who could not sympathize with George? A good little boy who is fed up with his nagging, cruel grandma?

Ooh. This was fun.

I remember reading this book when I was a young one and I liked it, so I decided to reread it.

There is one word to describe this book and that is fun. It’s really fun and a quick read that you don’t have to overly concentrate on because it’s really easy to follow and get into.

However, I do agree with some reviews about caution around younger readers - if you are giving this to a younger reader or are reading it with them, then please let them know that they shouldn’t go around eating dangerous household substances (like antifreeze or shoe polish).

Otherwise, I would highly recommend this book. It’s fun and all around a good reading experience.
