Zu viel Geschwafel…. Dabei habe ich es fast bis zum Ende geschafft.
Ahhh, David Copperfield.
My first Dickens, and certainly not my last! This was not a perfect book by any means. There were certain parts in David’s life that I found myself bored and not his biggest fan. But, there were also parts I was rooting for him, his life choices and the people around him. This got me thinking about my own life. Life is mostly boring and filled with mundane moments. Then there are moments that are extraordinary and bring a zest to life.
David Copperfield was a story about growing up, changing, and exploring life. It is mainly boring because life is boring, but you have to find the small moments that change your perspective.
I loved the ending of this story. It broke yet healed my heart. It was the perfect wrap up to David’s story. I loved Dickens’ writing. He is magnificent with his words and descriptions and I cannot wait to read more of his works.
A few of my favourite quotes:
“Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show.”
“My meaning simply is, that whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried with all my heart to do well; that whatever I have devoted myself to, I have devoted myself to completely; that in great aims and in small, I have always been thoroughly in earnest.”
“And now, as I close my task, subduing my desire to linger yet, these faces fade away. But one face, shining on me like a Heavenly light by which I see all other objects, is above them and beyond them all. And that remains.”
“She knew that in me, sorrow could not be weakness, but must be strength.”

I really liked the characters especially David and the peggotys.
Having said that the book would do good with 300 less pages (my opinion)
Best line that has ever been written:

Best line that has ever been written:
The mother who lay in the grave, was the mother of my infancy; the litte creature in her arms, was myself, as i had once been, hushed for ever on her bosom.
