I enjoyed the first half more than the second. I wanted to see what happened to the characters long after, but the book only stretched over a few months. Also, what happened to Lise? Why do we not hear anything more about her? Feels like a loose end :(

This is probably my favorite book of everything I've read. It's a philosophical novel first and foremost. The ideas are strung together effectively in this murder story. I loved it so much
I have had the Bros on my TBR list for years now. Having met my book goal for the year I figured there was no better time to delve into this THICK Russian romp. And... it was good. I mostly enjoyed the ride. The sentimentalities all found their mark, though I'm sure I missed many of the nuances on account of me being distinctly not Russian and not an orthodox monk. I enjoyed the Ilyusha sub-plot the most. Glad I've read it, but by the end I was ready to move onto something else, as opposed to most books I love, where I dread them ending.

Hated the lawyer speeches! Felt very self indulgent, otherwise an amazing book. Lot of people talk about Revolutions or The Grand Inquisitor, but Speech at the Stone and Delirium were my favorite chapters. Absolutely incredible. Michael Katz’s translation really managed to maintain a lot of the humor/voice, which was a big reason why I maintained interest for so long. Even as thick books go this was my longest read in a while (life got in the way), but it was so worth it.
