Here Be Dragons is Melanie Shankle’s most vulnerable and grounded work yet—a memoir of motherhood, identity, and healing. With her trademark humor and honesty, Shankle shares what it’s been like to raise a daughter while wrestling with the lingering effects of her own upbringing, including the wounds of generational trauma. She writes candidly about the emotional landmines of parenting, the complicated world of mean girls (both teenaged and grown), and the hard, holy work of choosing a different path than the one you were handed. It’s a story about breaking cycles, showing up with love even when you’re tired, and learning to trust that God is in the deep waters with you.

It didn’t have much about motherhood or her daughter’s struggles. It was almost exclusively about her relationship with her mother. While it was interesting to see how she worked through the trauma her mother heaped on her, it was a much shallower dive than expected. Not sure why it was written.
