Nothing really wrong with the book (well the heroine does make some painful blunders) but nothing particularly good either. There is the penniless heroine, tall and laconic love interest, and an amusing enough supporting cast. Plot ok, but again standard.

This was a very enjoyable and light read. The mystery was engaging but not too twisted. My only annoyance was with the the protagonist. She's a bit of a meddler and at times entitled. However, this didn't really impact my liking of the story too much.

4.5 stars! This was a fun, quick read that kept me engaged and curious! I liked that at the end, the solution to the mystery didn't come out of left field. The clues were laid out and followed to a logical conclusion. (I hate in other mysteries when the end is so shocking and you could have never guessed it because vital information was withheld til the last moment.) Even tho it is a murder mystery, this is a low stakes book that was very enjoyable.  I just learned the term cozy mystery and that definitely feels like it fits for this. Only thing that could have made it 5 is some romance 😂 but that's just my personal preference.

Cleo is a historical character with modern ideals, which feels unrealistic. Additionally, it's only with another character's help that she solves the mystery, after getting multiple characters fored due to her assumptions and accusations.

This was pretty good! I liked Cleo a lot. Wish we would’ve gotten more substantial interactions between Cleo and her cousin Flossy. Otherwise, not a bad little murder mystery! I’ll probably read the next book. I’ll probably check out the next one.
