Cleopatra Fox is the type of sleuth who solves mysteries by barreling in where she isn't wanted and asking rude questions. And people just sort of answer her truthfully. I found myself cringing at a lot if her actions that I think I was supposed to be applauding for being brave. That said, I did like the book overall and will give the next book in the series a try.

The plot had great potential but between the novice sleuthing by Cleo and the author’s obvious insertion of feminism in 1899 it fell flat. It’s an easy quick read with lots of tea but don’t expect brilliant detecting.
