A barely disguised memoir.

Her was absolutely nuts and hilarious.

Total snoozefest. I only managed to absorb like 10% of what was going on in the book. And it wasn't like I wasn't trying either! It took me ages to get through having to read over things 4 or 5 times.

Also I don't know if it was an issue with my translation but like, tenses were weird. It would go from "would say" to "said" in like the same conversation description which just doesn't make any sense. Like am I reading about a conversation that happened often or a conversation that happened once?

I wrote about the new translation of Ginzburg's wonderful little book, Family Lexicon for the Cleaver Magazine: http://www.cleavermagazine.com/family-lexicon-a-novel-by-natalia-ginzburg-translated-by-jenny-mcphee-reviewed-by-robert-sorrell/

Ammetto che più volte ho pensato di stare leggendo sempre la stessa, lunghissima identica pagina, ma quel lessico di casa Levi entra dritto nella memoria con molta dolcezza e leggerezza.

Not my favourite Natalia Ginzburg book by any means. At times it felt quite dry and even fickle in the way it glossed over war, death and political events. But it was interesting to read about her life and gave more context for the inspiration of her other books and characters.
