I am blood. I am vengeance. I am death.

3.5 ⭐️ and only raised it a half of a point for the last 10% of the book .

That’s it!? Just when I’m finally starting to get interested in the story the book ends . This felt like one big dragged out world building book. I really struggled through it, especially since all of the side characters had very similar ions, as well as similar names. The only storyline I really was intrigued with was Orka’s. I could definitely see this being a TV show. I think if I probably visually saw it first reading, it would’ve been easier for me. It read very similar to how a song of ice and fire reads. I wish there was more character, art, and creature art, as well as maybe a cheat sheet because I was confused completely at times.

Epic Norse world building, sometimes a little too focused on smaller details but overall the plot is great, I was nervous to read this trilogy and the first book took me longer than usual because you have to really focus but the ending was totally worth it and I’m excited for the next book.

Easily one of my favorite books of the year. I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed it.

I don’t think I’ve read a High Fantasy© book with a more Norse inclination and it was very welcome. The action is brutal and felt true to what I would expect out of a Viking saga. There were quite a few times I couldn’t believe some of the violence and it was excellent!

I usually avoid stories with multiple perspectives. Chances are one or more end up boring me to tears. And since fantasy books like that are a dime a dozen it’s often difficult for me to avoid them. However, all three perspectives in this book were enjoyable. Not a boring one in the bunch. And the one of the three I thought was going to be least impactful ended up having the biggest and craziest ending, so that was a real treat.

I can’t wait for the next installment, and in the meantime I’m going to check out what else this author has out there because I’m fast becoming a fan.

Its a slow start but it is so worth it when the story gets going. Such great storytelling that really brings you into the world. You truly feel like you have been thrown into the story from the start with no context and learn as you get further into the book.

If I never hear the phrase “thought cage” again, it’ll be too soon.

Other than THAT, I liked this one overall.  It was a a slow burn, sometimes painfully so. The Norse-inspired world is cool but kind of dense, and unless you already know a bit of Viking lore, some of the terms and references might feel confusing.

That said, the final third picked up, and I sped through it.  The ending makes you want to run and pick up book 2.
