i loved reading this right after Clytemnestra, as i had already learned so much about characters i found myself thoroughly enjoying the new perspectives and details regarding the long war. not just the war, watching Patroclus and Achilles grow old together was a delight. I teared up a little bit during their deaths, but because Achilles was being an entitled prick the weeks leading up to his downfall i was not as sad as i would have been if his death occurred earlier. you could say that i’ve fallen victim to how many of the greeks saw him
the obsession Patroclus had with Achilles feet did not go unnoticed by me btw. homeboy loved his boy’s feet

I am... underwhelmed?
I went into The Song of Achilles expecting a lot more than I feel I finished with. Everyone else I know cried and/or experienced intense pain while reading and I just, didn’t?
I knew of the basics of the story of Achilles and Patroclus, and what I didn’t know already I could see coming a mile away in this story.
Their younger years were- or at least felt- drawn out a little more than the ten entire years they were at war?? Everything just sorta felt bland and inevitable towards the end. Am I missing something?? Am I broken?
I have definitely cried at books and I am not a person who lacks emotions or tears when I’m moved- but I didn’t really have anything for this novel.
Don’t get me wrong, it is beautifully written and I was completely enthralled in the story and all. I just feel like I’m missing out on the emotion or something here.
If you love Greek stories (*cough* tragedies *cough*) I definitely recommend it. And, if you’re like many people who have read this, have tissues ready!
TW: mentions of r*pe, abuse, death, blood, murder, war stuff

I was happy to see this wasn’t overhyped, loved it.
History will call them tombmates.

As a lover of mythology I enjoyed this very much.
Knowing the original story of the Illiad, I had a vague idea of how it was going to end. Really enjoyed Odysseus, and can't wait to read Circe, in hopes of reading more about him.
