I don't read much dystopian fiction, and when I think of it I usually imagine 20 year olds rallying against an evil government and falling in love with each other and then at the end of the series one of these supremely attractive people or their family members would die before they overthrow the government and the book very neatly ends before anyone has to figure out what you do when you are suddenly handed immense power BUT
Guys, this book was amazing, and I wish it was even more well known. I hardly even remember where I heard about it, it's like it just found a place in my head and on my kindle mysteriously, like a ghost, a purveyor of very good books left it there for me. Thank you ghost, you aren't all bad.
This book was excruciatingly beautiful and painfully lonely and it was the first time I have ever consumed media where I felt like I was truly on a dying/dead world. The protagonist doesn't even had a name, but I was shocked how much I connected with her.
I don't even want to spoil anything, but the basic premise is a group of 40 women have spent decades locked in a cage without knowing why or what the outside world hides and the book follows the youngest, unnnamed protagonist as she grows up in a life without any of the beauty that the other women vaguely remember and dream about.
The ending will stick with me forever. It has been one of my favorite fiction books I have read in a while. 10/10 it's pretty short and it's a quick read. It's absolutely worth it.

Maybe it's because I listened to it as an audio book instead of reading it, but I found this story incredibly slow and, frankly, boring. I normally love reflective, character driven books, but this could just not hold my interest. I kept waiting for something to happen, nothing ever did. That being said, the overall concept did leave a big impression on me. I may try reading the book instead.
