The first 40% of the book annoyed me. I understand this book wasn’t meant to be contemporary, but a lot of the mc abilities were unrealistic. The fact she could tell time from her heartbeat, had amazing memory, the fact that she had no education what’s so ever but being the smartest of the women she was around, as well as her unrealistic reaction to the outside world despite her being locked inside a dark place for over 12 years, having no fear. To me, all of that seemed unrealistic.

But I would admit, once they escaped, the last 60% of the book I enjoyed. I didn’t mind that there were so many unanswered questions because we were suppose to follow the story throw the main character’s pov/thought process. She as well didn’t get any answers so why should we? Although this is fiction, it felt like I was reading a memoir of a fictional character. I really enjoyed that.

This book made me angry.
I’m usually one for a dystopian solo FMC journeys, however the writing style was not for me.
I grew tired of the repetitive nature of the book (I understand that this is part of what the author wants you to feel) it still frustrated me to no end. The attention to detail surrounding certain aspects of the characters observations and complete lack of detail for others was maddening. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone looking for a good time or even hoping for an emotional roller coaster cos it was just flat, flat, flat the whole way through.

3⭐️ I was pleasantly surprised but it is such a weird book. definitely questions what makes humans “human” and with happiness is sadness but death is for certain. This is on me because I should have known with the length/genre of story, but I definitely wanted an answer or solution after all the world building and detail. I enjoyed thinking about the realm and being as curious/puzzled as the narrator.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The concept is very unique, and it’s impressive that the author is able to maintain any sense of interest in a story that has such minimal plot. It is often repetitive and boring. I found the characters to be somewhat unrealistic and unlikeable. However, in the end, the book is thought-provoking and effective in its bleak aims.

After all that, she dies.
2 stars because somehow the author made this story of eternal nothingness captivating.

“As long as the sheets of paper covered in my handwriting lie on this table, I can become reality in someone’s mind. Then everything will be obliterated, the suns will burn out, and I will disappear like the universe.”
