This was my first Katherine Center book. While in the beginning fifty or so pages I was a bit hesitant because of how many times the words “Charlie Yates” were on the page, somewhere around page 100 I found myself not being able to put it down. I read the book late into the night and found the banter between the two main characters quite enjoyable.

There are some great quotes about love especially toward the end.

I took off some points because some aspects of the book didn’t seem fully explored, like the big Hollywood names like Jack Stapleton. I’m also wondering if part of that is because this book might be part of Katherine Center’s book universe.

I do plan on reading more of this author’s works. This is a heartwarming read that I think is the perfect length!

INFINITE STARS! Katherine Center does it again 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This one had so much humor, sadness, hope, banter... it was the perfect mix of happy and sad.
Books rarely make me laugh out loud, but I found myself laughing at the characters' dialogue and thoughts more than once. Emma is hilarious. She was so relatable too. Even Emma's family was amazing (can they be my family??).
Every single character was fantastic. Even the annoying character TJ (Jablowmie) was just the right amount of annoying to make me not hate him entirely. And Logan proved he's not actually a liar and just messed up once, so he redeemed himself. Emma is so sweet and funny and caring, and Charlie is the perfect example of someone who cares so much but just feel like he has to hide it under nonchalance and coolness. Every single character was so unique and added so much to the story.
I especially loved Charlie's character growth. If anyone knows how to writer character development, it's Katherine Center.
Everything in this book seemed so realistic too! Even the pilot waiting for Emma was based on a real news story the author read years ago.
Everything about this book made me want to have more faith in humanity. You never know what people are going through - as this book proved with Emma's dad's disease and Charlie's cancer scare.
10/10 recommend. So funny with sad moments that made the funny parts funnier. The summer's perfect rom-com!

I very much enjoyed this romance about two people writing a rom-com. There’s a load of medical trauma (perhaps a touch TOO much?) and grief, but it’s the satisfying kind of emotional. And even though Charlie is a sick in the beginning and never adequately apologized for it, I was still rooting for them in the end.

It absolutely breaks my heart to give Katherine Center a low review because I love her as an author and her books got me back into reading as adult. I think she writes wonderful romances with great characters and witty banter but The Rom-Commers fell flat for me.

There were elements that I liked- her relationship with her sister and her past with her parents, but I did not care for her romantic relationship with Charlie at all. I didn’t find him to be an engaging main character or love interest and their chemistry didn’t really do it for me.

Other gripes-
I personally didn’t care for the overhearing trope that happened multiple times.

I found Emma and “Charlie Yates” whole relationship to be quite dramatic and dare I say, a little childish?

I’m typically a big fan of Katherine Center’s Easter eggs, but I also found the Jack Stapleton references to be really overdone and I prefer them a little more subtle. For reference, I also rated The Bodyguard lower than some of her other books which are beloved to me.

All things said, I’m a Katherine Center stan and will sing her praises to all, but wouldn’t recommend this one as a starter to her universe of romance.

Emma is a writer with potential who has been living in Texas caring for her invalid father for a decade but is presented with the opportunity of a lifetime - in LA. Charlie is an incredibly successful, and grouchy and arrogant, screenwriter who needs Emma's help and doesn't want it. This book has banter, it has cooking together, it has a despondent guinea pig, it has a high dive rescue. Emma works through grief and family issues. She stands up for herself to Charlie and to her sister.

I first listened to the audiobook, and I have to say the narrator's voice was perfect for the Emma, the heroine.  The only part that bugged me was her British accent for Logan, it reminded me of Lindsay Lohan's faux accent in The Parent Trap. Shudder. After I listened to the audiobook I read the actual book and oh, why is reading the words always so much better.  It was as lovely as reading it for the first time. And I have to say the piece de resistance was the author's note.  In the audiobook, Katherine Center herself reads the note.  It apparently didn't get published in the book, but it can be downloaded from her web site.  She's the real thing and I'm a fan for life!
