Hard to talk about the book without avoiding but I didn't like it, not particularly because of the disturbing things but there were parts that felt too rushed for me and other parts that were probably too drawn out for me.

Well, that was horrible. But I mean that in a good way? The topics were absolutely disgusting and horrifying, the main character abysmal, but the writing and the story were amazing. Would recommend if you are aware of the content warnings first and aren’t easily horrified by stories.

This book was deeply deeply unsettling.
challenging dark fast-paced

This book has wormed its way into my brain and set up camp with a folding chair and a bloody knife. It’s been over 24 hours and I’m still thinking about it. Worse, was it showing up in my dreams like some messed-up horror pop-up ad.

It’s gory. It’s unsettling, It’s splatterpunk at its finest. It’s a fever dream soaked in rot and pure, unfiltered evil. I was hooked from page one, and not in a “aww I love this character” way but more of a “holy hell Lori is the worst and yet I cannot look away” way. Honestly, the fact that l managed to read page after page about such a genuinely terrible human being—and still wanted more is kind of weird to process.

While it’s not the most fucked up thing I’ve ever read, it was more captivating than I expected. Morbidly curious about the sequel, but also unsure if my nervous system is ready for whatever meat-soaked hell Edmund is about to unleash down the river of flesh.

Half a star docked because I am actively questioning what it says about me that I liked this so much.

Would recommend, but not to anyone I plan to make eye contact with again.

I can always count on Triana for an uncomfortable read.

A bit predictable in some senses, a bit of a wild ride in others. Lori is detestable, but still an interesting character.
