It’s taken me longer than normal to gather my thoughts around this one and to determine the rating! 😅

This was my first read of Triana’s, one that has been on my TBR for quite a long time! I do love his writing style and he does an absolutely amazing job with imagery and setting an immersive atmosphere!! 🙌

While I was hooked on finding out whether the River Man was real, who he was, and what was going to happen to Lori (who is one of the most disgusting and messed up characters I have ever read about), once we got there I was a bit let down. The ending seemed rushed and I was left feeling disappointed. All that, for that? (IYKYK) 🫠

I still want to read more from Triana - I just think maybe this one wasn’t for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not every book is for every person! ❤️ Feel free to check it out though! But I’m definitely giving trigger warnings!

- i'm rating this 3.5 because i found it well written
- if i had to describe the book with one word: hopeless
- i checked the content warnings before but some parts were hard to read
- the main character is detestable
- around the middle of the book when she arrives in the forest, there's a description of one character that truly spooked me out
- this book got me out of my readingf slump, yay!

I wasn’t sure how much of a ‘Splatterpunk’ fan I would be, thankfully this read was fairly mild. I enjoyed this authors writing more than I expected, but overall this was just okay for me. The story was fucked up, but not shocking. I’ll probably try another of this authors works.
